Oct. 18, 2015, Dance Haddonfield Waltz Course, Week Two
I introduced myself, told a little about where I work, a little about my philosophy. Started class with everyone dancing a waltz. Taught the opening ceremony. Explained its purpose. Changed the box step into the 'big square.' Reviewed some details about promenade position (PP), and other relative positions like closed, outside partner. Reviewed the traveling corte and impetus to PP. Showed the right hinge and gave prizes to the dances who got it nearly correct. This week's combination has developed: listen + invite 1 2 3 step in 1 2 3 hesitate left 1 2 3, right 1 2 3 turning box (big square) 1 2 3, 2 2 3, 3 2 3, 4 2 3 forward change steps 1 2 3, 2 2 3 single twinkle 1 2 3 to PP, 2 2 3 to closed position single twinkle again 1 2 3, 2 2 3 twinkle to PP 1 2 3 traveling corte 1 2 3 to impetus to PP (also sometimes called open impetus) repeat traveling corte 1 2 3 to impetus to PP repeat the traveling corte right hinge was the 'cliff hanger.' Next week, Oct 25: add the swivel to standing spin and another 'cliff hanger' If you would like to come early for extra help, you must bring a partner. |
Oct 25, 2015, Dance Haddonfield Waltz Course, Week Three
We spent the most time reviewing and improving the material starting with the twinkle to promenade position through the hinge. Swivel: After the hinge, the man transfers his weight sideways to his left foot for a hesitation, 1 (2, 3) while the lady steps forward to her left foot swiveling to face the man 1 (2,3). Standing Spin: Both partners step forward outside partner using the right foot. The man maintains his weight on his right foot, spinning to the right, paddling when necessary for balance with the left foot. The lady runs around clockwise. Underarm Spin: Th man stops his standing spin, releases the right hand hold, raises the joined hands and turns the lady under the arms to her right. He braces his body and the joined hold to help lady balance the end of her turn. Next week will be styling suggestions for the standing spin. Also the "closing ceremony." Nov 8, Dance Haddonfield Waltz Course, Week Five Was late to start the pre-class instructions since the doors didn't open until 5:30. Began the class with review of these elements of the pattern: -opening ceremony -styling and technique on change steps -big square -single twinkles -foot positions and lead and follow for twinkle to PP and traveling corte and impetus to PP -foot positions and lead for right hinge, swivel, standing spin, underarm spin and recovery to closed position Next week: Foot switch to shadow AND dance demo by juniors from our school |
