Medal Tests & Professional Exams, April 1 & 2, 2019
Our school participated in a competition on Sunday, March 31, and then on Monday and Tuesday, April 1 & 2, we had pro certification exams and medal tests. Everything went well. Naturally, no one ever feels fully prepared, but there's always next time. The main thing is that dancers need goals: medal tests, showcases, competitions. When a dancer tells me he doesn't need a goal, he is self-motivated, I automatically figure he is one of the 'Good enough is good enough" crowd. I realize I do that too to a certain degree. Obviously, senior citizens have to accept some limitations, but they don't have to just peddle around the floor with less than a moderate effort to stay in time, stand up, pay attention and work towards one's potential instead towards mediocrity.
Taking ISTD professional exams IS NOT EASY. It takes hours and hours of preparation, is nerve-racking BUT passing and knowing all that information about dancing and it relationship to the music, the traditions, the partner, the space is very satisfying.
Below are some photos from our recent Examinations day with Lori Woods-Gay, examiner for USISTD.
